PROJECT OVERVIEW
Shuker Building & Development was appointed by Shrewsbury Town Council to carry out refurbishment works to the historic Quarry Gates—an important and well-used entrance point to one of the town’s most iconic public spaces.
OUR ROLE
The works involved careful refurbishment of the gates and surrounding structures to preserve their appearance and ensure long-term durability. Given the central location and constant footfall, the primary challenge was maintaining public safety while minimising disruption.
KEY CONSIDERATIONS
To overcome this, we implemented robust safety measures, including secure protective barriers and clear signage. With good planning and effective on-site management, the project progressed smoothly while ensuring full public access to the surrounding area.
THE RESULT
The refurbishment has significantly improved the appearance, safety, and structural integrity of the Quarry Gates—an important access point used daily by residents and visitors. The newly restored gates now better reflect the historic character of the site while offering improved durability and low maintenance going forward.
Feedback from the public and the client has been extremely positive, with the enhanced entrance contributing to the overall aesthetic and welcoming feel of the Quarry park. The works have not only preserved a local landmark but also demonstrated Shuker Building & Development’s ability to deliver sensitive improvements in live public environments.
